Aims
We recognise the importance of an effective Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance for young people. We aim to raise aspirations, challenge stereotypes and encourage students to be ambitious in exploring a wide range of careers.
We are committed to providing a strong and effective CEIAG programme in school by providing information, experiences, guidance support and advice to assist students in making well informed decisions about their future.
Our intent is for students to:
- Develop a broad understanding of the world of work and the ability to respond to a changing labour market.
- Develop independence and research skills so that students know where to go for information and can make good use of guidance received.
- Develop self-awareness and knowledge in thinking about and making choices about their future.
- Develop the skills and values to review achievements, plan and execute future actions, make decisions, present themselves well and cope with change and transition.
Provision
An effective CEIAG programme includes both education and guidance. Careers education through Personal Development Programme and the wider curriculum ensures our students develop the knowledge and skills they need to make successful choices and manage transitions. We also have a well-resourced Careers Library containing a wide range of careers materials in addition to experienced careers advisors.
In addition to scheduled one to one career interviews, our Career Advisor is available to see learners every Monday, and offers a drop-in service at breaks and lunchtimes to all year groups. There is also an appointment system for individual careers guidance interviews and he will attend transition EHCP reviews.
Career sessions within the Personal Development programme are delivered at key transition points. Careers are embedded in the curriculum, to provide up to date labour market information, potential career pathways and P16 options for each taught topic. Utilising links with local employers, co-curricular activities are also used to promote both experiences with employers and personal and social development in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our school careers strategy encompasses personal guidance, experiences of workplaces, encounters with employers and both Higher and Further Education establishments.
